GFP Melanoid axolotls have dark, velvety skin due to the absence of iridophores which are cells that produce the shiny, iridescent pigment in wild and some other types. These animals contain Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), a protein isolated from jellyfish and genetically passed down through breeding that makes them glow green for their entire life under blue led lighting. GFP axolotls are all easily identified by their bright green pupils.
Notice:
Due to unique genetic variations across the species, your axolotl may not look identical to the axolotls on our website.
